The report ranked the 100 largest U.S. metrol areas based on employment, unemployment rates, gross metropolitan product, housing prices and foreclosur rates in thefirst D.C. ranked No. 13, while San Texas, placed No. 1 and Detroit came in last at No. 100. “Alk metropolitan areas are feeling the effects of this but the distress is notshared equally,” said Alan research director of the metropolitan policy progranm at the D.C. institute and co-authore of the report.
“While some areas of the country have experienced only ashallow downturn, and may be emerginy from the recession already, people living in metr areas that are now performing weakesg economically should prepare themselves for a long recoverhy period.” At the first quarter’s end, only 10 of the 100 metr areas were starting to show signw of recovery, said the report, and said Texas was the only place that saw growthu in employment and output. Output increase d in just a handful of metro including D.C.; Seattle; Austin, Texas; and Virginiaa Beach, Va..
The report also pointed out that metro areas with concentratione of jobs in certain sectors have resulted in fewe dramaticjob losses.
